Burien Public Safety Levy Information

Overview

The City of Burien has initiated the process of developing a property tax levy lid lift proposal to fund public safety in Burien. Following more than two years of community engagement, research and planning by City staff, and presentations to the Burien City Council, the City has continued to make progress on creating a proposal that reflects community priorities.

Timeline

  • June 2025

  • Draft ballot language presented to the City Council for approval

  • Pro and Con Committee application open to Burien residents

  • July 2025

  • The City Council appoints Pro and Con Committee members

  • August 2025

  • City submits the following to King County Elections

  • Resolution for levy lid lift

  • Pro and Con Committee appointees

  • Explanatory statement

  • Committees submit pro and con statements to King County Elections

  • Committees submit rebuttal statements to King County Elections

  • October 2025

  • City deadline to publish Notice of November General Election

  • November 2025

  • Election day is November 4, 2025

Pro and Con Committees

Burien residents may apply to join either a Pro or Con Committee. The City Council will appoint up to three members to each committee. Each member must personally believe in the position they are advocating for.

Committee members will draft a statement reflecting their committee’s position on the proposal (and any rebuttal to the opposite committee’s statement) to King County Elections for publication in the voters’ pamphlet.

The online application is expected to become available on this webpage (burienwa.gov/levy) following the presentation of draft ballot language at the June 16, 2025 City Council meeting.
