Budget

The City prepares a biennial budget during each even-numbered year for the following two-year fiscal period. Mid-biennium budget amendments are made each odd numbered year for the following fiscal year and are approved by Council. This provides an opportunity to make updates or adjustments if needed.

The budget document establishes the City’s priorities and serves as a:

  • Policy document
  • Financial plan
  • Operations guide
  • Communications device

2019–2020 City Budget Process

City staff will be presenting a budget proposal to City Council this fall for the 2019–2020 biennium. The proposal was developed by using information gathered through the City’s community survey, data collected throughout the year on service calls, and staff assessment on functions and services that meet community needs. A couple of key themes in the proposed 2019-2020 budget are:

  • Maintaining the City’s sound financial health
  • Addressing the structural imbalance and partial expiration of the annexation sales tax credit in 2020
  • Continuing to provide important City programs and services

During the budget process, residents will have the opportunity to communicate their funding priorities to the City Council.
