Soundside Alliance

The Soundside Alliance is a partnership of five neighboring cities, the Port of Seattle, Highline College, and the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of the Alliance is to foster collaboration on economic development in the southwest King County area by bringing together different levels of local government into a cooperative organizational framework. Other members include:

  • SeaTac
  • Tukwila
  • Des Moines
  • Normandy Park
  • Port of Seattle
  • Highline College
  • Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce

The Soundside Alliance presents a collective approach to improving the area’s economy. By collaborating on economic development goals, this cooperative approach to economic development allows the alliance to match the workforce, real estate, education, and market demand opportunities of larger cities like Bellevue and Tacoma.

Organizational structure

The Soundside Alliance is comprised of two committees:

  • The Soundside Executive Committee meets quarterly and draws its membership from elected officials and representatives from each of the partner jurisdictions. Councilmember Jimmy Matta currently represents Burien on the Policy Committee.
  • The Soundside Operations Committee is the second of the two committees. The Operations Committee meets monthly and is comprised of professional staff who implement the directives received from the Policy Committee. The City of Burien’s Economic Development Manager, Chris Craig, serves on the steering committee.
