Rental Housing Policy

The Burien City Council has adopted renter protections and a Rental Housing Inspection Program to ensure safe, healthy, and thriving rental housing in our community. They amended Burien's rental housing policy on October 24, 2022.

The Rental Housing Policy requires landlords to provide Renting in Burien Handbook – A Guide for Landlords and Tenants to all tenants. This handbook provides information regarding the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants and provides details on just cause evictions.

City of Burien COVID-19 Emergency Rent and Utility Assistance: The City of Burien’s emergency rent and utility assistance fund is for Burien residents experiencing financial impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more at burienwa.gov/rent-assist.
King County Eviction Prevention and Rent Assistance Program: The program helps people experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19 who are at risk of housing instability or homelessness.
United Way King County: If you’re a King County resident who has been impacted financially by COVID-19 and are behind on your rent, you may qualify for assistance. Learn more at uwkc.org/renthelp.
Multi-Service Center: Offers rent assistance and housing navigation support.
Catholic Community Services: Offers rent assistance and housing navigation support.
St. Vincent de Paul: Call the St. Vincent de Paul Helpline Center at (206) 767-6449, Monday–Friday from 8 a.m–3 p.m. They also have online help request form:
