Project Overview
The City of Burien demolished the Burien Community Center Annex, which was located at 425 SW 144th St., in 2020. A contract to demolish the building and restore the park for $325,400 was awarded to Construction Group International (CGI), LLC. Work began in the summer of 2020 and ended in the fall of 2020.
After demolition of the buildings on the north end of the property, the site was graded and seeded.
The south end of the park was not demolished and the north end of the park is now an open lawn. Parking is available between the north and south areas of the park. No changes to the Burien Community Garden were made.
The Burien City Council decided to close and demolish the building after learning from a facilities condition assessment that the building had several life safety concerns and was in critical condition, meaning the ratio between the cost to maintain and repair the building and the current replacement value of the facility is high.
