UPDATE (July 19):
Des Moines Memorial Drive will closed for paving work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 20. This paving work occurs between 3rd Circle South (South 17300 Block) and Ambaum Blvd South. A detour route is planned at S 171st Street. No through traffic will be allowed (except for local residents) through the paving work area until paving work is completed. Please consider alternate routes such as the detour route, 1st Ave South, or SR 509 and plan for extra travel time. This work is scheduled only for one day, Friday, July 20. Thank you for your cooperation and please drive safely.
Update as of July 17:
Major road work begins on Des Moines Memorial Drive on Wednesday, July 18 at 7 a.m. There will be lane restrictions and short duration road closures at various times of the day.
This major work includes the following:
- Wednesday, July 18 – grinding; pavement repair work, traffic signal loop work
- Thursday, July 19 –pavement repair work continues, traffic signal loop work continues.
- Friday, July 20 – asphalt overlay from 3rd Circle S (approx. 17300 block) to Ambaum Blvd S.
- Monday, July 23 – possible asphalt overlay work (if not finished on Friday).
The asphalt overlay work will have major lane restrictions anytime from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please consider alternate routes and prepare for extra travel time if using Des Moines Memorial Drive. We hope to keep this major work limited to 3 to 4 business days.
