Burien, WA, March 29, 2018—Late last night, on March 28, 2018, two young women lost their lives in a shooting at the 13700 block of Ambaum Blvd SW. The King County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release earlier today detailing the status of the investigation.
“Our thoughts are with the families of these two young people,” says City Manager Brian Wilson. “If anyone has any information to share, please come forward. Law enforcement will not ask your immigration status.”
“We will not tolerate this type of violence,” says Burien Mayor Jimmy Matta. “We don’t want to bury anymore children.”
The City is supporting the immediate response, which is a combination of community partners, the school district, and law enforcement.
We have requested additional support for our upcoming afterschool and late night programs, at least for this week. The City’s teen and youth programs offer positive and safe places for kids both at the Burien Community Center and onsite at elementary, middle, and high schools throughout Burien. Our Human Services Fund offers support to programs in our community that are doing work to prevent violence.
The City is also trying to enhance inroads into our community as part of the new police chief selection process.
“We are saddened by this terrible loss,” says City Manager Wilson. “We want bring all the resources, both locally and from the region, to help prevent another child’s death.”
