Burien Businesses Invited to Weigh in on Potential Ban of Single Use Plastic Bags

The Burien City Council is discussing a potential ban on single use plastics in Burien because of concerns about the damaging effects of plastics in the natural environment. The City of Burien strategic plan calls for the City to protect and improve the quality of Burien’s natural environment.

The City Council has asked the to provide recommendations on the draft plastic bag ordinance in advance of their discussion in October. The BEDP is hosting a business roundtable to get feedback from Burien businesses about the potential ban on single use plastic bags. Businesses will have the opportunity to learn more about what materials are included in the potential ban, and what is listed as exempt under the current draft language. The BEDP is an advisory group to City Council comprised of Burien business owners and residents interested in promoting economic development.

All Burien business members are invited.

Where: Burien City Hall, Council Chambers 400 SW 152nd Ave SW, 1st Floor

Invited participants will include Heather Trim from Zero Waste Washington, members of City staff, and Burien business owners representing a variety of businesses that will be affected.
