The City of Burien and Discover Burien will mark their second year of bringing neighbors together to celebrate National Welcoming Week (September 9-18) with a day of community connection, play, and celebration!

Everyone is invited to the Welcoming Burien event in Burien Town Square Park on Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The event will feature:

  • Come play with us! The Highline Heritage Museum will offer an array of multicultural games from around the world, including a fun hour of Loteria. Burien Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services will also have a variety of games that kids and kids at heart can use.
  • Dance and music! Enjoy the sights and sounds of dance performances and music to celebrate cherished traditions that reflect our community’s cultural heritage.
  • Enjoy Burien’s foodie paradise! Burien restaurants represent cuisines from around the world. Some highlights from small, local restaurants will be available for purchase.

This year’s National Welcoming Week theme is “Where We Belong.” Through Welcoming Week, organizations and communities bring together neighbors of all backgrounds to build strong connections and affirm the importance of welcoming and inclusive places in achieving collective prosperity.

“By participating in Welcoming Week, we are communicating our desire to build bridges of trust, respect, and mutual understanding within our community,” said Adolfo Bailon, Burien City Manager. “Whether community members have recently arrived or are first, second, or multigenerational residents of Burien, we want everyone to feel like they are home.”

The City of Burien has been a member of the Welcoming America Network since 2021.
