Congratulations to New Members Recently Appointed to BEDP, Human Services Commission, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and Planning Commission
Over several special meetings, the Burien City Council interviewed and appointed community members to serve on four advisory boards and commissions. They also added alternate positions to the Human Services Commission and Planning Commission. The City Council may appoint up to two alternate members to each board or commission to serve in the absence of regular members. The alternates membership terms shall be two years.
Advisory boards study issues important to the Burien community, take in public testimony, perform independent research, and review staff reports and recommendations. Members discuss, analyze, develop, and forward recommendations to the City Council, who then uses these recommendations to develop legislation. Business and Economic Development Partnership (BEDP)
Ingrid Miller, owner of Three Tree Books, Cammy Tran, who works in the financial industry, and Lindsay White, owner of Osteria di Primo restaurant, were appointed to the BEDP.
Human Services Commission
The City Council appointed three Burien community members to the Human Services Commission. Ana Hernandez Blackstad has a background in community and technical colleges, Melodie Garcia is a former project manager for the LEAD program, and Michael Heinisch returns to the Human Services Commission, bringing more than 40 years of work experience in behavioral health and human services. Jessie Drucker and Daniel Martin were appointed as alternates.
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
Jennifer Fichamba, who works for the Tukwila School District, was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The application has been reopened so that two additional openings can be filled.
Planning Commission
The Burien City Council appointed new members to the Planning Commission: Rocco DeVito, who works for King County Metro Transit, August Hahn, a local business owner, Lena Pace, who works for the Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC), and Charles Schaefer, a local accountant active in many community civic groups. Rebecca Gobeille, an attorney with housing land trust experience, was selected as an alternate.
