The City of Burien will be raising a Burien-themed soccer flag over Burien City Hall in celebration of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup 2026™ on Thursday, June 11 at noon. The community is invited to participate in a group photo, enjoy light refreshments, hear brief remarks, and cheer as Burien’s soccer flag is raised over City Hall.

The City is celebrating “Burien’s Summer of Soccer and Fun” through June and July, encouraging guests to come enjoy “The World in One City,” which reflects the diversity of our community and the many nations competing in this major global sporting event.

The City in conjunction with community partners such as Discover Burien, the Highline Heritage Museum, Latino Civic Alliance, and the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce has coordinated a series of local events designed to bring neighbors together in shared public spaces to encourage connection, movement, and time together in celebration of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™.  Attendees can enjoy live broadcasts of select tournament matches in outdoor viewing areas throughout the city, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, while supporting local businesses.

Burien’s Summer of Soccer and Fun will launch with Burien’s Copita / Community Cup hosted by the Latino Civic Alliance. This free family-friendly event will take place at noon on Saturday, June 6 at the Highline Memorial Stadium. Other exciting events include a Taco Festival, Frida Kahlo Festival, Youth Multicultural Festival at the Highline Heritage Museum, watch parties at Burien’s cherished annual summer events, Town Square Park, Boulevard Park, and Chelsea Park.

The Burien City Council will issue a proclamation declaring a “Summer of Soccer” in Burien at their meeting on Monday, June 15.

“Burien runs on fútbol — soccer — and the people who love it,” said Deputy Mayor Hugo Garcia. “This summer, our city hosts watch parties, cultural festivals, and community gatherings that remind us: no matter where you're from, the beautiful game belongs to everyone. Game On Burien!”
