U.S. Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal Includes Burien Public Market Project in Community Project Funding Request for Appropriations Committee Consideration

United States Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal has included Burien in list of community projects for consideration by the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations as they work on federal funding decisions for the 2026 fiscal year.
The $3 million in proposed federal funding would complete a permanent covered structure for all-weather operations of a Burien Public Market, as well as install lighting and construct multi-use community space spanning 5th Avenue SW from SW 152nd Street to SW 151st Street in downtown Burien's Town Square.
This project aims to enhance economic opportunities for microbusinesses, enhance vitality in the downtown, provide new community gathering spaces, offer goods and services for residents, and introduce new visitors and tourists from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and beyond to the unique vibrancy and culture of the Burien community.
The City of Burien is thankful for Congresswoman Jayapal’s advocacy on behalf of Burien and will update the community when additional information is available on the status of this federal funding request.
