Burien City Councilmember Linda Akey officially announced her resignation from the Burien City Council, effective immediately, on May 18, 2026.
Elected to Burien City Council Position 2 in November 2023, Akey has served on the City Council since 2024.

While serving as a councilmember, Akey represented Burien on regional boards and committees including the South County Area Transportation Board (SCATBd), Highline Forum, and Soundside Alliance Policy Committee.
In March 2025, Akey was recognized by the Association of Washington Cities for successfully completing their Certificate of Municipal Leadership training program.
As of May 19, 2026, Burien City Council Position 2 is vacant. The City of Burien will announce the councilmember recruitment schedule and outline the appointment process on its website by Thursday, May 21, 2026.
