Closures and Cancellations

Updated May 11, 2020

The City of Burien is running on a reduced level of staffing in order to follow Public Health’s orders on social distancing. See the full list of building closures and program and event cancellations below.

Burien City Hall

Burien City Hall is closed to walk-in customers. City Hall phones and email will be answered between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day. If you need to access permit services, business licensing, pet licensing, or other City business, please contact the City of Burien staff either online or by phone

Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Classes and Programs

The City of Burien is closing recreation programs and community centers, as follows:

  • The Burien Community Center and Moshier Art Center including all programs and rentals are closed, except for leased artist studios.
  • All outdoor, park-related rentals and programs are also canceled. This includes picnic shelters, ball fields, park rentals, and programs.
  • All playgrounds, sports courts, and public restrooms are temporarily closed.

This closure will take place between March 16, 2020 and June 1, 2020. All programs have been canceled through mid-June.

All afterschool programs will be canceled in accordance with school cancellations. The status of other programs and operations within the PaRCS system are:

  • All parks will remain open.
  • Leased spaces such as the Environmental Science Center and the Community Center Annex will remain open to tenants.

The City will contact all program participants and renters about these closures and cancellations. The City will credit or refund participants for those programs and rentals impacted by the closures, per the participant’s choice.

If you have questions about rescheduling a rental or class, or receiving a refund, please contact PaRCS at (206) 988-3700 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m or email at

Burien Community Resource Center Temporarily Closed

The Burien Community Resource Center will be closed until further notice. The Burien Community Court, however, will continue to operate. Given that the Court cannot assist court participants effectively in the absence of key service providers to address their needs, the Court is working to have a handful of providers present or accessible for the court providers. The few providers present will be located in the courtroom itself.

Community Events

All community events hosted by the City of Burien through July have been canceled or changed to virtual events. Please check with the event organizer or the event calendar for up-to-date information.

City Council and Advisory Board Meetings

City Council meetings and advisory board meetings will be held virtually, with options for community members to provide public comment.

Concealed Pistol License and Fingerprinting Services

The Burien Police Department is unable to provide fingerprinting services or process new concealed pistol license applications at this time. They will continue to process concealed pistol license (CPL) renewal and replacement applications. Until further notice, the community room is unavailable for community use.
