Proclamations: Arbor Day & Earth Day.

The Burien City Council issued two proclamations on April 19, 2021 to raise awareness and support actions to protect the environment. The Earth Day proclamation coincides with a week of planned events in the Burien community. The City of Burien has also embarked on the development of a climate action plan, with the first community workshop scheduled for April 29 at 7 p.m.

The Arbor Day proclamation highlighted the benefits of a healthy urban forest, emphasizing the need for both private and public investments in protecting our tree canopy. The Green Burien Partnership Urban Forest Stewardship Plan was adopted in 2020, and outlines strategies for reaching 40% tree canopy cover in Burien by 2030.
