City Adopts New Emergency Procedures to Protect Public Health for Upcoming Public Meetings
The City of Burien is adopting emergency procedures for upcoming Council meetings and advisory board meetings following Public Health - Seattle & King County's recommendations to promote and practice “social distancing,” increasing the physical distance between people to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
Revised public comment procedures have been put in place so that community members who do not feel comfortable attending the meetings in person can still provide public comment. Public comment in all languages will be accepted. Please include your name for the record. Your public comment will be read at the council meeting by a City staff member. The two-minute time limit will be maintained.
How to watch meetings from home
Both the March 11, 2020 Planning Commission meeting and March 16, 2020 Council meeting can be watched from home at:

If you would rather provide written public comment to be read at the Planning Commission meeting, you have two options:
- Email your public comment to [email protected].
- Write your comment on one of the sheets provided and hand it to City staff at the meeting.

If you would rather provide written public comment to be read at the Council meeting, you have two options:
- Email your public comment to [email protected].
- Write your comment on one of the sheets provided and hand it to the city clerk at the meeting.
Public Health recommendations
To protect the health of our neighbors, community members are encouraged to not attend a public meeting if they are feeling the following symptoms:
- Fever
- Cough
- Difficulty breathing
Public Health recommends that people at higher risk of severe illness should stay home and away from large groups of people as much as possible, including public places with lots of people and large gatherings where there will be close contact with others.
People at higher risk include people:
- Over 60 years of age
- With underlying health conditions including include heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes
- With weakened immune systems
- Who are pregnant
Caregivers of children with underlying health conditions should consult with healthcare providers about whether their children should stay home. Anyone who has questions about whether their condition puts them at risk for novel coronavirus should consult with their healthcare providers.
