Burien City Council voted to elect Jimmy Matta to serve a second, two-year term as mayor and Krystal Marx for a one-year term as deputy mayor. Both Matta and Marx were elected to Burien City Council in 2017.
Matta owns a local construction firm and serves on several community boards. Marx is the executive director of Seattle Pride.
Burien is a council-manager form of government. Other members of the Council elect both the mayor and deputy mayor. Mayors serve two-year terms and deputy mayors serve one-year terms; both can serve an unlimited number of terms.
