Background
“My priority is to improve the quality of life for all who live, work, and do business in Burien. I believe our people deserve a community that supports their needs, while offering opportunity for growth and development. My focus is ensuring Burien’s population is healthy, happy, and thriving, and I will work to accomplish this by making sure their interests are always well-represented at the local level. I am dedicated to making our city a clean, safe, sustainable, and inclusive place for all. I enjoy collaborating with others to pursue these shared goals, because I know that together we can build a brighter future for Burien!”
Cydney Moore moved her family to Burien in 2013, and immediately fell in love with the natural beauty, rich diversity, and vibrant culture of the city. Since that time, she has been actively involved in the community, including working with various local organizations and nonprofits.
Moore has been a journalist and editor by trade, with a background focusing around politics. Her other professional experience includes social media and digital marketing management and consulting, web design, and sales. In 2011 she launched her own digital media start-up, which grew into a successful small business. Moore has also spent time working as a freelance writer for the B-Town Blog, covering happenings in Burien, and launching a series profiling local shelter pets.
Moore has been a leader in the nonprofit sector for over a decade. She serves on the Board of Trustees of the Burien Arts Association, has served as a Lead Organizer for ACLU Burien People Power, Co-coordinator of the Burien/White Center Migra Watch Team, and spent several years on the steering committee of the statewide nonprofit Sensible Washington, during which she helped create and operate the campaigns for multiple city and statewide initiatives, as well as crafting legislation in Olympia. She has also spent time volunteering with the Community Visions Network, the People’s Harm Reduction Alliance needle exchange program, Burien C.A.R.E.S., Burien Clean Sweep, Burien PRIDE Festival, the King County Count Us In annual homeless count, the Burien Severe Weather Shelter, and more.
She went to Lane County Community College and is certified through the Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) program from Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority.
Moore enjoys spending her free time with family and friends, especially going on outings in the city’s various parks with her two children, meandering through Burien’s downtown core, and exploring its many unique neighborhoods. She loves meeting new people, learning new things, and hanging out with any kind of animal. She is also enthusiastic about Burien’s many cuisines, and is always on the lookout for a new vegan eatery or menu option.
