Youth Afterschool Programs

Youth dance, sports, arts, and educational hands-on workshops and after-school programs are offered throughout the year. The Recreation Division also offers a variety of school break and summer camp options.

Afterschool Sports Club

To give kids the opportunity to experience a variety of sports right after school at a lower cost for participation. This program will help develop teamwork and leadership skills, as well has provide physical activity in a fun environment.

Location: Select schools.

Time: Varies by location.

Grades: 4th & 5th

Afterschool Art

Have fun learning different art techniques and skills! Learn about color, line, shape, form and composition through painting, drawing, and creating 3D sculptures. Explore the world of art and learn about artists like Calder and Matisse. We will create new art projects each session. All supplies are provided. Art instructor Debbie Thoma has been leading art lessons and art events for over 10 years in Burien elementary schools. She loves to help kids make art! Currently the program is offered at the following school and is only for those students.  Registration is required.

Location: Hazel Valley Elementary

Time: Thursdays, 3:15–4:30 p.m.

Grades: 2–5

Cost: $60 (scholarships available)

Starts September 19!

Afterschool PE

An afterschool activity program for 4th through 6th grades that runs after school. Activities could include are but not limited to: volleyball, badminton, pickle ball, basketball, Wii fitness and dance, break dancing, hip-hop dancing, yoga, and pilates. Bus transportation home is provided for students. Currently the program is offered at the following schools and is only for those students.

Time: 3:10–4:10 p.m.

Grades: 4–6
