The Burien City Council interviewed two executive search firms to help recruit and select a new city manager, adopted priorities for the funding of human services in 2023-2024, adopted a memorandum of understanding with the Teamsters union, and discussed solid waste requirements for local businesses.

City Council Interviews Firms to Help Recruit New City Manager

The City Council conducted interviews with WBCP and GovHR USA to determine which firm would be hired to help the City Council recruit and select a new city manager. They are scheduled to make their final selection during their March 7, 2022 meeting.

Human Services Commission 2023-2024 Funding Priorities and Biennial Report

Kelsey Sebanik-Guizlo, Human Services Commission vice-chair shared a snapshot of the accomplishments of the human services providers that received funding in the 2021-2022 funding cycle. The City Council also adopted priorities for the 2023-2024 Human Services Fund. The Human Services Commission uses these priorities to help determine the funding recommendations they will make to the City Council later this year.

Potential New Solid Waste Management Requirements for Businesses Discussed

The City Council heard recommendations from the Business and Economic Development Partnership (BEDP) regarding potential new solid waste management requirements for local businesses. Robyn Desimone, the chair of the BEDP, and Debra George of Discover Burien, presented alongside City staff.

City Council Approves Agreement on Wages and Contract Extension with Teamsters

The City Council approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the City and Teamsters Local Union 763 who represents Public Works Department’s Maintenance Division. The MOU details a new agreement on wages and extends their contract through 2024.

Planned Discussions Tabled

The Ambaum and Boulevard Park Community Plans and 2022 work plan both were scheduled for discussion but were tabled.
