The final draft of the
Miller/Walker
Creeks Basin Plan has been provided to
the City Council for review and comment. The
plan is a cooperative effort of King County,
the Port of Seattle, WSDOT, and the cities
of Burien, SeaTac and Normandy Park to
identify and pursue opportunities to improve
both habitat and water quality and to reduce
stream erosion resulting from runoff due to
heavy rains. To learn more about the
creeks and what you can do to help improve
them, visit the
Miller and Walker Creeks Stewardship page.

Maplewild Avenue Southwest Repair Project wins
'Public Works Project of the Year'
The City of Burien is pleased to announce that its effort to repair damage to the roadway from the Nisqually Earthquake in 2001 has won the statewide "project of the year" award
from the Washington State chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA).
The award, given annually to the public works project that best exemplifies design and construction coordinated to achieve a public goal, will be presented to City staff at the APWA annual Awards Recognition Ceremony held in conjunction with the 2006 International Public Works Congress and Exposition in Kansas City, Mo, in September 2006.
The project involved a road realignment which required the City obtain new rights of way. Two new retaining walls were constructed to protect the new road from future slides. Parking additions were also built, trails were upgraded and trees were removed. Construction was completed in May 2005.
