1st Avenue South Improvement Project Phase II (SW 146th to SW 140th Street)

"When will this project end?".  That is the biggest question for this project.  The short answer is.... sooner than we think.

An important priority to this project is safety.  While vehicle traffic certainly outnumbers the pedestrian type and frustration mounts when sitting through several signal lights, the City and its contractor have certainly endeavored to maintain balance between the construction crew, vehicles, and pedestrians.

Maintaining balance is not always easy.  For example, the lane restriction for northbound traffic on 1st Avenue South is really meant to provide temporary access for pedestrians so they may walk safely.  The City is required by law to provide this access.  But from a driver's vantage point, it is frustrating.  The good news is that the end of the project is in sight.  Please bear with us especially in these next few weeks.
Sidewalk
During the week of May 10 through May 17, DPK made an extraordinary push to complete grinding and the first layer of asphalt.  Unfortunately, some scheduling issues and other meaningful tasks did not make this so.

Right now, the focus will be on getting those brand new traffic signals working.  To do this, the contractor will be installing traffic inductance loops at each intersection within the project corridor.  As these are being installed, City Light may be working on getting power to the new signals and LED street lights as early as the week of May 20-24.  If this happens, then the final overlay will happen much sooner.  Otherwise, we will be about four weeks away (minimum) from the final asphalt overlay.

The major work is expected to end by mid-June if all goes well (weather included).  Thank you for your amazing patience and considerations on this project so far.

Please drive safely and responsibly.
