Human services funding under the general fund is allocated on a biennial basis through a competitive application process.

For 2017-2018, the City of Burien allocated $320,000 per year.

These funds are allocated to local agencies that provide programs to Burien residents that help with basic needs, self sufficiency, housing and homelessness, early intervention, domestic violence, and other human services needs.

For 2019-2020, the City of Burien anticipates allocating approximately $370,000 per year. This includes a Council-approved change to the human services funding formula to $6.50 per capita as well as approximately $45,000 in funding from the Community Development Block Grant program.

The City recently created a Human Services Commission that will be reviewing the 2019-2020 applications and making a funding recommendation to the Burien City Council.

Now accepting applications for 2019-2020 human services funding

The City of Burien Human Services Commission announced the release of the 2019-2020 Request for Proposals for human services on March 5, 2018.  As a member of the Human Service Funders Collaborative, Burien is participating in a joint application process with 16 other cities located in King County.  Human services providers interested in applying are able to use one application to submit to any of the 17 cities online at www.share1app.org

Applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Late applications will not be accepted.

Commissioners will review the submitted applications between June and August and present funding recommendations to the Burien City Council in the fall. Besides quality of application, the Commissioners consider other factors including outcomes, demographics, prior performance, cost effectiveness and efficiency, and focus areas identified in Burien’s Supplemental Information.
