CITY OF BURIEN, WASHINGTON

 

RESOLUTION NO. 174

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BURIEN, WASHINGTON, SUPPORTING THE MAIN STREET PROGRAM CERTIFICATION APPLICATION MADE BY THE DISCOVER BURIEN ASSOCIATION.

 

            WHEREAS, the City of Burien, Washington recognizes the importance of our downtown as it relates to the economic health and quality of life of the community; and

 

            WHEREAS, the continued improvement, revitalization, and development of downtown Burien is a City goal; and

 

            WHEREAS, the Discover Burien Association has been formed to stimulate economic development and preservation of downtown Burien, thereby lessening the burden of municipal government; and

 

            WHEREAS, the Main Street Approach™ to downtown revitalization has generated community-wide interest and support; and

 

            WHEREAS, the Burien City Council recognizes its commitment to provide financial support to the Discover Burien Association.

 

            NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURIEN, WASHINGTON, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

 

            Section 1.  Application support.  The Burien City Council does hereby endorse the concept of a local Main Street™ program and the submittal of an application to the State of Washington to become a designated Main Street™ community and participate as such in the state Downtown Revitalization Program’s Tier System.

 

Section 2.  Effective Date. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage by the Burien City Council.

 

            ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURIEN, WASHINGTON, AT A REGULAR MEETING THEREOF THIS 3rd DAY OF MARCH 2003.
