Minutes: Amended minutes to mention that Mark Reis will be replacing Gina Marie Lindsey as Managing Director at the Port of Seattle. Harvey Aulgur moved to approve the amended minutes; John Roberts seconded the motion. Motion passed and minutes were approved.
Chair’s Report:
Dean introduced Barbara Blackshear-Haley as a new member of the Partnership and gave the members information on Barbara’s background.
Update on the library bond – need 60%, as of Wednesday at 4 PM the bond had passed by 63.53%. This is great news for a new library and Town Square.
Ryan Warnes and Bob Ewing volunteered to either attend upcoming Council meetings or watch them on TV. They will share the months of October and November and report back to the Partnership.
City Manager’s Report: Gary Long
Turnout was good for the community meeting held at the new Gregory Heights school on Thursday, September 23. The surrounding community is very proud of the new facility. The second and last meeting this year will be held at Cedarhurst School next Wednesday, September 29, starting at 6:30PM.
Airport issues progressing. The City Council approved the withdrawal from ACC. The City is attempting to scope out the work program on Northeast Burien, there is a lot of work ahead.
The City Council approved the downtown tax abatement for new multi-family development on Monday, September 20.
On the legislative agenda, the news from Cantwell’s office is that $200,000 has been earmarked for the Senior Center. This is a total of $300,000 federal money for site acquisition.
The transportation measures are still locked up in election politics.
Discover Burien Report – Debra George
Just two weeks left for the Farmers Market.
Octoberfest coming up October 1, 2, 3.
The Discover Burien Economic Development Committee is developing classes/seminars for merchants covering window display/marketing for the holidays.
Costume dog parade/costume contest scheduled the end of October. Trick or Treat is scheduled for Friday, October 29, since Halloween falls on a Sunday.
LID Update – Steve Clark
Steve reported that the City has a sufficient number of signatures in hand for the First Avenue LID to become effective. A resolution will be presented to the City Council on October 4 creating the LID. Steve thanked the Partnership and Discover Burien for their help in getting the LID paperwork signed by more than 60% of the landowners.
Discussion and Motion Concerning Town Square Development Agreement – David Cline
David distributed the Town Square Public/Private Partnership Agreement Framework Presentation for the September 27 Community Workshop scheduled from 6:00-7:30 PM. The presentation highlights each of the elements in the agreement. The Partnership was asked for their recommendation to the City Council. David Elliott moved that the Partnership support moving ahead with the Framework Agreement; John Roberts seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
Round the Table:
Barbara Blackshear-Haley – Gregory Heights and Hazel Valley are open this year with newly constructed schools. School district conducting a boundary review for all schools. With the loss of 1100 students, up to three elementary schools will be closed.
Gary Long – Mark your calendars for the Town Square Community Workshop on Monday, September 27, 6-7:30 PM and the Community Meeting at Cedarhurst on Wednesday, September 29.
John Roberts - Lot of changes going on, need to keep the communication going.
