Can I cut a tree on my property?
For undeveloped/vacant lots, tree removal is not allowed until time of development. For developed, private lots, tree removal and pruning require a permit if the property is located within a critical area (steep slope, stream or wetland area, erosion hazard area or seismic hazard area). Additional information about tree cutting and pruning permits can be found in Chapter 19.25 of the Zoning Code.

Unless a piece of property contains survey markers on the site, a surveyor will be required to identify the exact location of property lines.

How do I find out if there is a critical area on my property?
The City's Critical Area map is located online in the IS/GIS map collection. The latest version of Adobe Acrobat is required to view the Critical Area map.

What does it mean if I have a critical area located on my property?
Any alteration, construction, development or activity within a critical area requires a Critical Area Review. Chapter 19.40 of the Zoning Code addresses critical areas.

What are the allowed uses, setbacks, height and area requirements of a particular zone?
The City's zoning code provides this information in the Use Zone Charts, Chapter 19.15.
